All About Me

Hello All, Welcome to the Lemasters Library! I am your librarian, Ms. Pfeiffer, and I thought I would share some information about myself. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I hold state certification in Elementary Education for grades 1-8 and in Library Media Specialist for grades K-12. I have been teaching for over 20+ years. (I won't put the total because it makes me feel old to actually say it!) I LOVE to read. I spend most of my time reading. Rarely will you find me without a book within arm's reach. I read almost as soon as I wake up in the morning, and often through meals. If reading burned calories... well, let's just say I probably wouldn't be here.

I wasn't always a reader. I started reading late. By the summer after fourth grade, I was still reading far below grade level, and the private grade school I attended had very few, if any, resources for struggling readers. My mom knew that the key to academic success was reading, so she went looking for anything that would help me. She found a course offered by a private company. It was meant for adults, and expensive, but you know moms. She convinced the company to all me to take the course, then went about convincing my already busy father to work extra shifts to pay for it. He agreed, and mom drove me to B. Datlon bookstore on Hampton Ave. I needed 8 -10 books of my choosing for the course. She told me I could choose whichever books I wanted, as long as I would read them. At the time I remember just wanting to go home. Spending the whole summer taking a reading course with a bunch of adults did not sound like a good time. Every day for weeks, mom packed up meals, and activities for my sister, and loaded us into the station wagon and drove an hour out to take me to class, and wait in the lobby for 7 hours while trying to keep my sister entertained. That summer, that course, was a turning point. I read 300 books that summer. Mom kept count. Some were picture. Some were chapter. I'm pretty sure I read every Sweet Valley High book they had out at the time. There is no time table, or limit, to becoming a reader. If you aren't a reader now, or if your child isn't a reader yet, no worries. The time is now, and it is never too late. I get such joy out of watching someone become a reader. I also find great joy in recommending good reads for children, and adults. If you are looking for some recommendations, send me an email at npfeiffer@rgsd.k12.mo.us and I will try to help.

Outside of reading, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, working on art and crafting projects, swimming, watch movies and documentaries, and getting a mani/pedi. I have a weakness for books, chocolate, and strawberry frappuccinos from Starbucks
